It's All About Balance

I need to talk to you this week about something super important that I know gets easily overlooked when we aren't feeling the best. We spend a lot of time compartmentalizing all of the various areas of our lives: relationships, career, money, exercise, health... but we need to know is that if one area is out of whack, our WHOLE life is affected. Imagine making tons of money AND being in a loving, happy marriage BUT you have no time to exercise. Pretty soon you will appreciate your flow of money and love less simply because your body is not getting the exercise it needs to feel alive and energized. Or, what if you exercise and eat like a champion but completely neglect your spirit or creativity? You might have a healthy body but the rest of your life won't feel all that healthy. That’s why it’s so important to think of your life as one holistic pie and to make the decision to put your energy into making every piece of that pie as yummy as possible!

Sounds great, right? Everyone wants to be working at the top of their game in each part of their lives but too often, we don't even know what we are missing when it comes to all of the pieces. Then, once we do realize we are missing something, how do we figure out what it is and how to regain that important piece of ourselves? I have good news for you, it's not as hard as you might think and I can help. More on that later. Let's keep going.

What do you mean, a "More Balanced Lifestyle". I'm busy enough!

Creating a more balanced lifestyle means taking a really good look at all areas of your life: relationships, career, money, exercise, health...and making decisions about what is and isn’t working in each area. For me, I have been stuck in the health area in the past, the money area most of my life, and spirituality is a come and go struggle. (Someone once told me that makes a me a stronger believer so I'm holding on to that.) Maybe you're wondering what the heck to do if you feel a little bit stuck in each of those areas and that's okay too. I'm willing to bet that once you sit with yourself for a bit, you will gain a lot of clarity on what might be off kilter. It's not about adding more lines on your To-Do list, it's about taking from one side and moving it to another area that needs nourished.

Okay, so why am I still stuck if I know I'm stuck?

Sometimes the reason we stay stuck in unhealthy or unhappy areas of our lives is because it’s easier, in a way, to stay stuck in the familiarity than to find the creativity and energy to make the changes needed to improve our quality of life and move into the unknown. Think about it this way, if you want to lose weight and you know that it's all about diet and exercise, then why aren't you out there doing it? If you know you want to squirm away from every conversation that revolves around money and finances, how will you ever feel better about money and finances. Truth be told, it's change and it can be scary and confusing! It can also be exactly what you need to do to take a step into a your most healthy self. Remember, health isn't all about not having a fever.

How do I even know if my life is unbalanced?

Great question! It's pretty easy to figure out once you are aware that that strange annoying tug in your gut means something. Maybe it's an overwhelming urge to garden or color with your kids. Maybe it's a feeling of needing more from your job or from your church. Pay attention to those feelings and think about these questions.

●  Are you used to getting things done on your own, but could use a little support?

●  Do you want to build a healthier relationship to food, money, or God?

●  Do you eat when you are bored, angry, sad, or stressed out?

●  Do you want to develop a deeper connection to yourself and others?

●  Do you want to be empowered to be your own health expert?

●  Do you want to be inspired about healthy cooking?

●  Do you want to discover optimal eating for your unique body?

●  Do you want more confidence, energy, and self-acceptance?

●  Do you want to be challenged in new ways?

●  Do you want to be held accountable to show up for yourself?

Okay, okay, what do I do next then?

Take some time to journal and pray or to meditate on your life. Notice what you are drawn to and what feels like it is lacking. If something touches a nerve or brings emotion, there is good chance you are on the right path. These little nudges and tugs are excellent clues about pieces of you that might need a little TLC in your life.
