The alarm rings, and before your feet even hit the floor, your mind starts racing.
I have so much to do.
I don't want to get up.
How am I going to get it all done?
Some days are like that, but some days shouldn't be most days.
Sometimes that ambition, drive, and ability feel more like a curse than a blessing, don't they?
Trying to do and be everything at work and at home is exhausting and relentless, so it's no surprise that you're feeling overwhelmed and burnt out.
You’ve tried to push through and do more, hoping that someday, something will change.
But that day turns into a month... 3 months... 6 months....
What if I told you that feeling confident, calm, and having the time and energy for success and fun is already yours?
You don’t need to wait for your lucky break.
You need to change your mind to stop overwhelm and burnout.
The Myth of Luck - The Fingers-Crossed Approach
It’s easy to look at everyone else and wonder what they've got that you don't.
You might believe they’ve got it all together or that they're lucky.
What you don’t see is the mindset that makes them feel confident enough to set and hold boundaries, trust themselves, and believe in their success before it actually happens.
Behind every “lucky” break is someone who decided to do the work to believe in themselves, who learned how to manage their thoughts,
to keep going even on their worst days,
and to stay focused on what they want instead of what's happening right now.
It’s not about waiting for luck.
It’s about creating your own luck with the right mindset.
How to Shift Your Mindset To Stop Overwhelm and Burnout
When you think of a confident, successful woman, who comes to mind?
Maybe it’s Amy Hood,
Taylor Swift,
or that woman in the next office who somehow manages to create the perfect system, get her kids to practice on time, volunteer at the shelter, and still have time to play pickleball on the weekends.
But what if, just for a second, you imagined yourself as that woman?
Not waiting for a lucky break.
Not hoping that someone or some situation will finally change.
Just living your life in a way that feels simple, calmer, and more in control.
Want to know a secret?
That version of you isn't that far off.
Honestly, she’s already inside you.
You just have to shift your mindset to bring her to life.
The Illusion of Luck
We tend to look at successful women and assume they have something we don’t.
Better timing, more opportunities, some connection to God that isn't available to us.
Rarely do we stop to consider that we're the problem because admitting that means we have to change our habits and beliefs, and admit we’re failing. (Oof! That hurt a little, didn't it.)
In episode 131 of More Than Anxiety, I sat down with transformational life coach Laura Flowers, who works with women navigating career transitions and burnout. She made an important point:
"Burnout isn’t just about being tired. It’s a thread of patterns—overcommitting, ignoring your own needs, pushing through stress until your body forces you to stop."
If you’ve been feeling exhausted, emotionally spent, or like you’re running on fumes, that’s not “bad luck.” It’s burnout and it comes from the thoughts, decisions and habits that are signs that something needs to change.
Suzanne’s Story: From Anxious to Excited
Suzanne was exactly where you might be right now. When we first started working together, she was drowning in anxiety, struggling to manage her time, and overwhelmed by thoughts of what others thought of her. She avoided social situations, felt stressed about the state of her home, and constantly second-guessed herself.
In our early sessions, we focused on scheduling, setting small goals, and managing her anxious thoughts.
Little by little, things began to shift.
She challenged herself to sit with the other parents at her kids games, to say hello and smile at people at the grocery store. As her confidence grew, she was more focused on being present with her family and enjoying the great things in her life instead of fretting over what she feared other people thought.
When Suzanne completed the Boundaries & Balance Audit, she scored herself a 9 out of 10 in every category, even as she works through a scary health diagnosis and as she continues to challenge herself to be more involved and show up as her amazing self!
That's an enormous mindset shift!
Suzanne stopped waiting for the right time or a lucky break. She had created her own success and confidence by changing the way she thinks about herself and her life, setting boundaries, and focusing on her values.
Mindset: Your Secret Weapon
Imagine, instead of clawing your way through your day,
believing you had the power to change how you feel about your days,
even before your circumstances change?
Laura and I talked about how mindset affects everything, from our energy levels to the way we set (or fail to set) boundaries. She put it perfectly:
"We all have the ability to integrate different strategies and find what works for us. It’s not about one-size-fits-all solutions, it’s about figuring out what makes you feel your best."
And one of the biggest shifts is realizing that setting boundaries isn’t selfish or rude; it's essential.
Your Next Step: The Balance & Boundaries Audit
So where do you start?
If burnout, stress, or anxiety has been your norm, it’s time to take a step back and get a bird's eye view of what's working, what's not working, and what needs your attention.
That’s why I created the Balance & Boundaries Audit.
You don’t have to keep pushing through stress, anxiety, and overwhelm, hoping something magically changes.
You can create more balance, energy, and confidence, and it starts with getting honest about where you are now compared to where you want to be.
And remember: you are not stuck.
The life you want is closer than you think.
It starts with a decision to believe in yourself and start!
So, are you ready?
I thought so.
