“WHAT IF”…
The question you keep asking when you’re anxious that you can’t ever answer with 100% certainty.
What if this time…?
The more you ask ‘what if’ the more anxious you feel.
The more anxious you feel, the more you ask “what if".
Let me show you what this looks like.
When I started working with Leah, she asked ‘what if’ questions about her kids’ health. She’s a great mom who loves to have fun with her kids.
Leah worried about every bump, runny nose, and bruise because she thought she was protecting them.
She spent lots of time Googling symptoms to make sure the bumps and runny noses weren’t something worse than kids being kids and when she couldn’t find anything, she dug deeper.
She thought up new, scary things that could be wrong to look up because she felt anxious. The feeling made her believe something HAD to be wrong.
What she learned, if you dig deep enough, you will always find something.
Leah confirmed her fears that something could be wrong so she had an answer to why she felt anxious.
As we worked together, Leah learned to feel the anxiety and let it be a signal to put down her phone and stop researching. She let questions be there unanswered and learned to trust her gut.
Now Leah lets the kids play, gets annoyed by another cold, and remembers that when she feels anxious it’s only a feeling. She feels it, notices her thoughts, and lets them go. She has more energy for her kids, her husband, and her job because she isn’t focused on the “what if” thoughts.
